Plant Generic Bioprocessing Apparatus (PGBA) PGBA is a double middeck locker payload capable of providing optimal conditions for healthy plant growth in space flight. Environmental parameters controlled inside PGBA include: light, temperature, humidity, oxygen and carbon dioxide. (click here for a one page PDF brochure describing PGBA)
STS-94
ONBOARD VIEW --- Astronauts Susan L. Still, pilot, and Donald A. Thomas, mission
specialist, transport the Astro/Plant Generic Bioprocessing Apparatus (PGBA)
to the Spacelab Science Module in the Space Shuttle Columbia's cargo bay,
shortly after arriving on orbit. The PGBA was stored on the mid-deck for
transport, just as all experiments will be for flights of the International
Space Station (ISS). The crew later installed the PGBA in the Expedite
Processing of Experiments to Space Station (EXPRESS) rack for the duration of
the flight before returning it to the mid-deck for entry and landing. PHOTO CREDIT: NASA or National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Contact Dr. Alex Hoehn, Associate Director of Engineering, for additional information. |
