Gas Exchange Fermentation Apparatus (GEFA)

GEFA was designed to allow cell culture growth in a batch processor with passive gas exchange capability and increased volume over the FPA.  Cultures were contained in a gas-permeable silicone bag that was housed in an aluminum shell with gas-permeable endplates and placed into an ICM v.2 for thermal control.  GEFA flew aboard STS-95 and was subsequently evolved into the current MOBIAS design.
