    Wake Up Call: How, EXACTLY, systems of prvilege and oppression work

    Thurs., Nov. 3, 9:30-10:30 in the Dennis Small Cultural Center, UMC 458, join
    us for free coffee and breakfast snacks plus informative, thought-provoking
    discussion of the second part of "Privilege, Power and Difference," an
    important book by Allan Johnson. No reading required, just an open mind.
    Discussion geared to graduate level, but all are welcome. Facilitator: Jane

    Multicultural book discussion group features "From a Native Daughter" Nov. 10

    Crossing Borders Through Books, a discussion series focusing on multicultural
    themed works, will feature "From a Native Daughter: Colonialism and Sovreignty

    Joel Gratz: ---How to Forecast Your Next Powder Day---

    Don---t be the only one of your friends going to class on a powder day. Come
    hear how a meteorologist and his new website OpenSnow.com can keep you in the
    know. Learn the tips and tricks he uses to forecast snow so you can get your
    homework done a day early and enjoy powder all winter long. This is a free
    event that takes place Wednesday, November 2nd at 7PM in HUMN 1B80

    Physically inactive subjects needed for muscle study, $45

    The Department of Integrative Physiology is seeking 18-30 year-old volunteers,
    who have been physically inactive (---6 months). Additional screening questions
    will be asked upon inquiry. You will be asked to run downhill on a treadmill
    for 30 minutes, which will produce muscle soreness. Blood samples and soreness
    ratings will be collected on 5 occasions. The study will require ~3.5 hours
    total, spread across 8 days. You will be paid $45 for study completion.

    Excavations at Villa of Maxentius, 7 PM, Wed. Nov. 9, Museum of Natural History

    Professor Diane Conlin, as a part of the Archeological Institute of America---s
    (AIA) lecture series will illustrate the results of the research team's
    excavations, highlighting the discovery of a portico thought to belong to a
    second century CE villa. Conlin will share the project's goals and strategies
    for the 2012 season as she and her team continue to uncover the layers of Roman
    history of the Villa of Maxentius in Rome. Refreshments will be served.
