SUBJECT: Google Apps Coming for Students
This spring the undergraduate and graduate student governments surveyed students during the student government elections about preferences for an e-mail and calendaring service to replace CULink. Given the choices of Microsoft Office 365 and Google Apps for Higher Education, students indicated a strong preference for Google.
Student feedback, attractive new releases, and a favorable contract make Google Apps, a cloud-based messaging and calendaring service, the logical replacement for CULink. In addition to including e-mail and calendaring services, Google Apps also provides Google Docs, Google Chat and other Google collaborative technologies. Desire2Learn, our campus online learning environment, also offers integration with Google Apps.
Your desire for updated e-mail and calendaring functionality has made implementation of Google Apps a priority. The Office of Information Technology has begun a project to make Google Apps available for students and alumni beginning during the fall 2012 semester. We will document progress toward this goal at: http://oit.colorado.edu/email-calendaring-direction.
