SUBJECT: Earn a core and Spanish course in 3 weeks -- Barcelona, Spain!

Spend June in Barcelona, Spain on this exciting Global Seminar. You'll earn 3 credits in 3 weeks learning about Spanish, Catalan, and immigrant-literary cultures from Dr. Javier Krauel of the Department of Spanish & Portuguese. The program includes exciting educational excursions to world-class museums, theatres; you'll see the remarkable street culture, and more.

    What will we learn?

The course will be largely based on a series of cultural sites and events that are unique to Barcelona. The syllabus is organized around neighborhoods in Barcelona, museum tours, and other excursions throughout the city. The classes will also incorporate guest lectures by Spanish scholars on a variety of topics (immigration, literature and culture, history, art, architecture, and political science). This will provide you with a unique perspective on the complexities, tensions and struggles inherent in the multiple cultures that coexist in a modern European city.

By spending time in Barcelona, you will broaden your horizons and acquire an intimate knowledge of the ways in which local and immigrant cultures intersect in a modern European city.

    How does the credit count?

The course will count towards the requirements for all three tracks of the Spanish major: i) for the Spanish Language and Literature track, it will count as one of the three 3000 level, upper division Spanish electives; ii) for the Spanish and Portuguese Language and Culture track, it will count as one of the two required courses in Spanish or Portuguese at the 3000 level or above; and iii) for the International Spanish for the Professions track it will count as an upper division elective.

The course also fulfills the Human Diversity Core.
