Dear Students,
We are writing to encourage you to join us and accept an important challenge. Counseling and Psychological Services and Oasis have issued a challenge to the university called the Live Free Weekend.
From noon September 23 to noon September 27, all those connected to the university have been challenged to sobriety from alcohol, marijuana, and recreational drugs for 96 hours. A well-intentioned challenge such as this has the potential to help us grow as a university and develop strength and understanding as individuals. Given the many challenges that the university and community faces connected to drugs and alcohol, we feel it is important to join the other event supporters and ask you to take this sobriety pledge. By visiting www.colorado.edu/livefreeweekend you can take the pledge and see exciting event details.
On this website, you will see the pledge, which is quite simple: I pledge to take the 96 hour sobriety challenge and commit to put forth my best effort in making the best out of my sober weekend. By submitting your electronic pledge, you will join us in making this a very special weekend. We congratulate individuals and groups that have accepted this challenge and sponsored fun, free events.
We are pleased to see many groups and organizations come forward to promote a healthy and rewarding endeavor. We also want to highlight the second half of the pledge, to make the most of your weekend.
We hope you will consider attending some events connected to the Live Free Weekend so that it can become another opportunity to develop our CD community.
Also, with challenge being in the air, we want to extend a challenge to other groups to take the pledge as a group. Please take this opportunity to discuss this pledge within your department, group, staff, or team and decide if you all want to accept this challenge. We can use this challenge to stimulate conversation about substance use and start to look at creative ways to connect and spend time together. You might even consider designing and adding your own event to the list and invite others to join you over the weekend.
We feel this event can have a significant impact on our university. We hope to see you at some of the events and to see your group listed on the Live Free web site as committed to 96 hours of sober fun.
Be sure to take the pledge today!
Go Buffs,
