SUBJECT: Study Abroad scholarship for critical languages
Dear students of Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Russian,
If you plan to study abroad next year (2010-2011 year), you should also consider applying for a Boren scholarship. The Boren scholarships are awarded to undergraduates who plan to study in Africa, The Middle East, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin American, Russia and NIS states (Semester at Sea is not eligible), and who will be studying languages that are deemed of critical importance to the U.S.. The scholarship awards are significant (up to $20,000 for the full year), and recipients must work for one year after graduation in the U.S. Departments of State (including Peace Corps), Defense, Homeland Security or the Intelligence Community.
The Boren deadline is February 1, 2010 for students studying abroad in fall 2010, spring 2011, or academic year 2010-2011 (strong preference is given to students who go abroad for an entire year). Advance planning is necessary!
