Dear Graduating Senior,
Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! Graduation is an outstanding accomplishment that provides us with the foundation to pursue new adventures, opportunities, and endeavors that come our way. It is a monumental mark of academic success that we can carry with us for the rest of our lives. Together, as we complete our last semester here at CU, we have the opportunity to leave behind a legacy that CU alumni will cherish for generations to come. As a member of the graduating class of 2009, you have a chance to personally contribute to the legacy our class will leave behind.
In past years, graduating seniors have made monumental strides through their efforts of establishing their Senior Class Gift. Recently, seniors have contributed to projects such as supporting the construction of the Plaza in the Center for Community, which is a new building scheduled to open late 2010. Additionally, past graduating classes have contributed the blue safety lights around campus and the Hill, restored areas in the UMC, renovated the beloved Farrand Field, reinvigorated a historic Lilac Garden on campus, implemented a Senior Class Legacy Ball, as well as establishing scholarships for our students.
This year, the 2009 Senior Class Gift will support three very important projects. First, the gift will support the renovation of the outer east side of Norlin Library where the sundial sits. Completed this fall, the Norlin Library Renovation Project features a new eco-friendly pervious pavement foundation, flagstone benches and tables equipped with power outlets, as well as a water feature. In this enlivened space, there will be an etched sandstone square where the 2009 Senior Class will be recognized, and can be used to: sit outside and enjoy the Colorado weather, study and do homework, enjoy a meal, as well as gather with friends.
In addition, the gift will allow the campus to continue the tradition of the Senior Class Legacy Ball. This annual celebration serves as a unique opportunity for seniors to come together one last time to celebrate the camaraderie and accomplishments of their time at CU. Through our gift, the Class of 2010 will be able to enjoy this celebration, continuing the legacy that was introduced in 2007.
Finally, the Class of 2009 will support the continuation of the Senior Class Norlin Scholarship Endowment, which will allow a scholarship to be awarded annually to a rising senior student. This scholarship recognizes a student who has demonstrated outstanding academic or creative achievement during his or her college career. A scholarship is a tremendous way of leaving our mark forever.
Beginning November 19, you will be contacted by student callers from the CU Foundation and asked to donate all or part of your $200 enrollment deposit from freshman year to the 2009 Senior Class Gift.
The University of Colorado at Boulder has made impressions on all of our lives, our characters, and our futures. Now we, as the class of 2009, have the remarkable opportunity to change CU for the better. I hope you will join us in carrying on the tradition of giving back to our community and leaving our mark on CU forever by donating to the Senior Class Gift this year. Help us make this another record breaking senior gift campaign.
