SUBJECT: Appointment of Christopher Braider as Director of Journalism and Mass
Dear CU-Boulder Journalism students:
I am pleased today to announce that I am naming Christopher Braider to the post of director of Journalism and Mass Communication Faculty. The position will oversee the day-to-day administration of the Journalism Plus program, which is housed in our Graduate School, as well as the administrative issues impacting graduate students in journalism and mass communication.
Professor Braider has been a member of the Boulder faculty for twenty years, after a number of years as a faculty member at Harvard University. His leadership experience at CU-Boulder includes service as chair of French & Italian (1994-2001), acting director of the Center for Humanities and the Arts (2004-05) and chair of the Comparative Literature & Humanities (1996-97). He also was the 2010 winner of the Boulder Faculty Assembly Service Award.
I selected Professor Braider for this important post because of his experience, his fairness and his track record of leading other programs in transition. I believe it is important that we implement the Journalism Plus program with an eye toward the future, and I believe Chris can lead with objectivity and an open mind regarding the present and near-future issues that will arise in these efforts. At the same time, he will be a valuable resource for current graduate students completing their work in journalism and mass communications.
Please join me in welcoming Professor Braider to his new role.
