    SUBJECT: Safety Advisory - 2010-03

In an attempt to assist the City of Boulder Police Department with an
on-going investigation, we are asking for assistance in identifying a
suspect in a sexual assault case that occurred between 2 and 2:30 a.m. on
Sept. 6, 2010 in the area of 17th Street and Broadway. A 19-year-old female
was walking home after leaving her friend's residence and was sexually
assaulted by an adult male on the grounds of University Hill Elementary
    School.

The attacker was described as male aged 18-25, possibly of Middle Eastern
descent, with a pronounced, pointed nose, spiked hair that was dark in color
but did not contain hair gel, dark eyes, and no facial hair.

A composite sketch can be viewed at the Boulder Police Department website at
    http://www.bouldercolorado.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=13694:sept-27-2010-police-seek-assistance-in-identifying-suspect-in-sex-assault&catid=729:2010-news-releases&Itemid=4264.

Information on this incident was not received by the Boulder Police
Department until a week after the incident. Additional time was also needed
to obtain information from the woman on the details needed to create the
    composite sketch.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact Detective Kurt
Foster at 303-441-4329. Those who have information but wish to remain
anonymous, may contact the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at
1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-444-3776. Tips can also be submitted via the
Crime Stoppers website at http://www.crimeshurt.com . Those submitting tips
through Crime Stoppers that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a
suspect(s) may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 from Crime
    Stoppers.

CU Police caution all students, faculty, staff and visitors to be aware of
their surroundings and to practice good personal safety habits, including:

-- Remember to use the buddy system. Don't walk home alone and don't leave
friends alone while out at night. Call CU NightRide at 303-492-7233 if you
    need a ride.
-- Be aware of the campus and Hill blue light emergency phone locations and
    use these phones when needed.
-- Remember to close and lock doors and windows to help prevent burglaries
    and assaults.
-- Report all suspicious activity and persons in on-campus locations to
campus police by calling 9-1-1 in emergencies or 303-492-6666 in
    non-emergencies.
-- Report all suspicious activity and persons in off-campus locations to
Boulder police by calling 9-1-1 in emergencies or 303-441-3333 in
    non-emergencies.
-- When it comes to your safety, it is always better to err on the side of
caution by contacting one of the numbers listed above with your concerns.
-- Remember that alcohol impairs judgment and the ability to recognize
    dangerous situations.
-- Don't be a passive bystander. If you see a crime in progress, quickly
make a call or assemble a group to aid a victim.
