SUBJECT: Cristol Chemistry Closed on Sept. 29 for Safety Assessment

A minor laboratory fire in the University of Colorado at Boulder's Cristol
Chemistry and Biochemistry Building early this morning was extinguished by
the building's sprinkler system and is being investigated by the Boulder
Fire Department.

The entire Cristol Chemistry complex, including room 140, will remain closed
for the rest of the day, Sept. 29, while officials conduct a safety
assessment. All classes, exams and lab work to be conducted Sept. 29 will be
rescheduled. Information regarding the building's reopening and the
resumption of classes and labs will be posted on the front of
http://www.colorado.edu and in CUConnect.

The Campus Alerts text-messaging system was used this morning at 6:43 a.m.
to notify the campus of the building's closure due to the fire. Since the
text-messaging system was already activated this morning, the Campus Alerts
test scheduled for today is canceled. If faculty, staff and students are
signed up for the service and did not receive a text message this morning,
notify the IT Service Center at 303-735-HELP.
