SUBJECT: Urgent Vulnerability Addressed by Workaround for Microsoft Internet
    Explorer

Microsoft has identified a vulnerability in Office Web Components which, if exploited, could allow an attacker to gain control of a compromised computer. Microsoft has suggested a workaround and the IT Security Office strongly urges those who use Internet Explorer to enable this workaround as no update is currently available. Microsoft reports that this vulnerability is currently being exploited.

More information about the vulnerability and workaround are available at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973472. On this page you are presented with two "Fix it" links. You should choose the "Fix it" icon directly under the words "Enable workaround" and follow the instructions to install the workaround.

If you have questions about this vulnerability or the workaround, please contact the IT Service Center at 303-735-4357 (or 5-HELP from an on-campus phone) or help@colorado.edu. Phone help is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
