    SUBJECT: President Benson Appoints Phil DiStefano CU-Boulder's 11th Chancellor

    Dear Members of the University of Colorado at Boulder Community,

    I am happy to announce I have appointed Dr. Phil DiStefano chancellor of the Boulder campus. Dr. DiStefano has the leadership ability, expertise and perspective to guide CU-Boulder through these challenging times and to build on the campus's status as one of the great public institutions in the United States.

    Chancellor DiStefano has served CU-Boulder with distinction for more than 35 years. The insight he has gained during his time as a professor, associate dean, dean, provost, associate chancellor and interim chancellor has given him a deep knowledge of the campus, which will serve us well in the coming years. He also has a passion for the teaching and research that are at the heart of our endeavor. I have complete confidence in his abilities and integrity and I know he is a team player who will work effectively with our various constituents.

    I would like to thank the members of the search committee, who did great work over a short time period on the search. I would also like to thank all the members of the CU-Boulder community who took time to attend forums and share thoughts with the search committee and with me. I received overwhelmingly positive response to Dr. DiStefano's candidacy.

    We face significant challenges as a campus community, and I know Dr. DiStefano is up to those challenges. I look forward to working with him to ensure that we sustain the excellence CU-Boulder has built over the course of 133 years.
