SUBJECT: BOULDER FACULTY ASSEMBLY EXCELLENCE AWARDS
Attention: Boulder Campus Faculty, Deans, and Department Chairs
The Boulder Faculty Assembly is pleased to announce that up to twelve
awards for faculty excellence are to be granted in spring 2011.
Up to four awards each will be granted for excellence in the areas of:
1. Teaching
2. Service, and
3. Research, Scholarly and Creative Work.
The Chancellor provides funds for these prestigious awards. Recipients will
each be granted $3,000 and will be honored by colleagues, family and
friends at a reception at the end of March.
Nomination packets must be delivered in electronic form as "pdf" files.
Complete packets may be delivered to the BFA Excellence Awards Selection
Committee in one of the following ways:
saved on a USB drive or CD and mailed via campus mail to 046 UCB;
saved on a USB drive or CD and sent via U.S. Mail to:

saved on a USB drive or CD and hand-delivered to 914 Broadway room 1B14;

15, 2011.

EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING:
Emphasis will be on actual classroom teaching for all four awards.
Nominations should not be "recycled" from the past, but rather should be
prepared for this award cycle. Nominating packets must contain the following
materials in the following order:
A cover letter from the person nominating the faculty member. If several people
are nominating the faculty member they should jointly prepare one cover letter
and cosign it.
3 to 6 testimonial letters from faculty members. Letters may be prepared and
jointly signed by more than one faculty member. Submit signed letters if at all
possible. If a signature is not possible, please include a copy of the email
to which the letter was attached for confirmation purposes.
3 to 6 testimonial letters from students currently enrolled at UCB.
Testimonial letters should not be submitted by students currently enrolled in the
nominee's classes to avoid possible conflicts of interest.
The official FCQ summary of course and instructor ratings from the nominee's
student course evaluations.
A sample of no more than 10 individual FCQs.
The candidate's curriculum vitae.
(Other supporting materials relating to the nominee's excellence as a teacher
may be included if appropriate but must follow the items on the list above.)
About Nominees
Nominees will be from general faculty, (i.e. members of the Boulder Campus
Faculty Senate) teaching in any semester or term in the academic year,
including instructors, and are solicited from departments as well as
individual faculty members.
They also may be self-nominated.
The award will not be given to the same person in successive years.
Nominators are advised to present the names of only those colleagues who
will be on campus during the spring semester 2011.
The deadline for receipt of complete nomination packets is Tuesday, February
15, 2011.

EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE:
Faculty service is defined as all of those professional activities other
than teaching and research that are performed by faculty members as part of
their University and departmental responsibilities or as community outreach
(internal, external, or both kinds of service). This may include such
activities as:
- Committee work (department, campus, and university)
- Faculty governance
- Student advising
- Service in state or national professional organizations
- Volunteer work with public and non-profit organizations

appropriate but must follow the items on the list above.)

through the usual channels. For instance, nominations for interdisciplinary
research, work accomplished with undergraduate students, or an integrated
long-term achievement are particularly invited.

prepared for this award cycle. Nomination packets must contain the following
materials in the following order:
A cover letter from the person nominating the faculty member. If several people
are nominating the faculty member they should jointly prepare one cover
letter and cosign it.
3 to 6 supporting letters of evaluation from appropriate colleagues. At least 3
letters must be from colleagues outside of CU. Evaluators must sign their
letters of evaluation if at all possible. If a signature is not possible,
please include a copy of the email to which the letter of evaluation was
attached for confirmation purposes.
