TO: Boulder Campus Teaching & Research Faculty,

FROM: CU Environmental Center
SENDER: Robert Hall, Energy Program Manager

SUBJECT: Be part of the National Teach-In on Global Warming Solutions
"Continued growth of greenhouse gas emissions, for just another decade,
practically eliminates the possibility of near-term return of atmospheric
composition beneath the tipping level for catastrophic effects." - James
Hansen, NASA, 2008
We stand at a unique moment in human history. The window for action on
global warming is measured in months, not years. Decisions that we make--or
fail to make--in 2009 will have profound impacts not only for our children
and grandchildren, but for every human being that will ever inhabit the face
of this earth from now until the end of time.
Who: CU Faculty. In less than 20 minutes, you can play a role in shaping the
direction of clean energy development and global warming policy by opening a
class conversation on one of the most critical issues that will face this
generation. Faculty don't have to be scientists or climate change experts to
get students engaged on this topic. The CU Environmental Center has also
provided links to resources on climate change basics and related issues.

When: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH, 2009, at the beginning of the first 100 days
of the new administration, the National Teach-In on Global Warming will
engage over a million Americans in solutions-driven dialogue.
What: A day of discussions about global warming and the solutions we need to
focus on now. The National Teach-In is occurring at more than 1,000
institutions in all 50 states. Science and political opportunity converge on
2009: This is the year that we must begin to reduce our global warming
emissions. Together, we will stabilize our climate, invest in a clean-energy
future, and build pathways out of poverty. As educators, students and
citizens, we owe our nation a focused conversation about the critical
decisions that will determine if our descendants will inherit a prosperous
or an impoverished planet.
How: On that day, Faculty can take 10 minutes of class time to discuss
issues surrounding global warming, bringing in their own disciplinary
perspective. They can encourage another 10 minutes of class discussion to
allow students to share their thoughts and views.
