SUBJECT: Response to the Recommendations from the Instructor Task Force
and Academic Affairs Policy on Course Overload
In 2007, I appointed a task force to look at the important role played by
instructors and senior instructors to address the teaching mission of the
University. Professor Jeffrey Mitton chaired the task force, which made a
number of recommendations to my office. I have accepted many of the
recommendations that address instructor status and letters of offer,
salaries, career development, and professional needs. To review my response
to the Instructor Task Force, please go to

In addition to responding to the Instructor Task Force, I also discussed
with the Deans and the Boulder Faculty Assembly the need for a campus-wide
policy on teaching overload courses. The Deans and the BFA decided to adopt
the policy that the College of Arts & Sciences uses as a campus policy. I
agreed with their decision and approved a campus-wide policy on teaching
overload courses that becomes effective January 1, 2009. This policy can be
found at

I welcome your comments on either or both policies.
