The Sustainable Practices Certificate Program* is offering a 3-day workshop on
the Boulder campus; DESIGNING AND BUILDING WITH NATURAL MATERIALS

This course introduces the evolution, growth, methods and opportunities of the
natural building movement in the United States. Architects, home owners,
builders and students will gain an excellent overview of the art and science of
natural building materials, including the physical properties of each system,
design considerations, and techniques. Participants will have the opportunity
to work directly with a variety of techniques and materials such as straw bale,
straw clay, earth bag, cob, adobe and natural plasters. The three-day workshop
will be part classroom and part hands-on learning. Course details:

Natural Building expert LAURA BARTELS, founder and owner of GreenWeaver Inc.,
will be the lead instructor for this course. Laura is an experienced builder,
consultant and educator in the natural building field. BRUCE KING, founder and
director of The Ecological Building Network will join the course as a guest
lecturer.

The cost for this course is $440, CU faculty, staff, and students receive a 10%
discount. An early bird rate of $396 is available until October 1st. Continuing

This is part of a series of courses scheduled to take place on the Boulder
campus in the coming months. In addition to this Natural Building course, Laura
Bartels will also present Straw Bale Construction in November and Natural
Plasters and Finishes in April, 2008. These courses can all be applied to the
Sustainable Practices Certificate offered through the Division of Continuing
Education.

In conjunction with this course Bruce King will deliver a public lecture, HOW
WILL WE BUILD WHEN OIL AIN'T CHEAP? Join us on Friday October 12th at 7:00
p.m. in room Math 100 on the Boulder Campus for this free event.

* The Sustainable Practices Certificate Program brings international experts in
sustainable practices to the Boulder campus in collaboration with The College
of Engineering and Applied Science and CU Boulder's Division of Continuing
Education and Professional Studies.
