DISTINGUISHED RESEARCH LECTURE: "AMAZING WAVES," APRIL 3, 3:30 P.M., OLD
The 101st Distinguished Research Lecture, "Beaches to Lasers: Mathematics
and Extraordinary Waves," by Professor Mark Ablowitz of Applied Mathematics
will take place Friday, April 3, 3:30 p.m. in Old Main Chapel. Free and open
to the public. Reception to follow. The lecture will be understandable to a
lay audience; it will "leave all equations behind." The Distinguished
Research Lectureship is the highest award the faculty of CU-Boulder bestows
on a fellow faculty member.

ROLENA ADORNO SPRING 2009 COX FAMILY VISITING SCHOLAR
Spanish and Portuguese announces the March 30-April 3 visit of Rolena
Adorno. Dr. Adorno will give two public lectures: in Spanish, "La historia
no escrita de la censura literaria en la Espana de los Austrias," March 31
10 a.m. McKenna, Room 103; in English, "Whose New World? The Spanish
Heritage in the Narrative Imagination of Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century
North America," April 2 at 4 p.m., Norlin British Studies Room.

The Albert E. Smith Fund supports social science research on issues
associated with a new nuclear age. CARTSS' Albert E. Smith grants include:

CLASSIFIED STAFF PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS
The 2008-2009 performance evaluation period will end March 31, 2009.
Supervisors must complete an evaluation for all classified staff and
retirees in permanent positions by their department's April deadline to

THE DR. JOANNE ARNOLD COURAGE AND COMMITMENT AWARD FOR OUTREACH TO LGBT
Dr. Arnold is professor and associate dean emerita of the School of
Journalism at UCB. Dr. Arnold was the first chair of the Chancellor's

Interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano will offer an overview of the budget, an
update on the implementation of Flagship 2030 and share his immediate
priorities for the University of Colorado at Boulder including 2010
reaccreditation in a Spring Semester Campus Update on Friday, April 3 in the
UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom. The event begins at 8 a.m. and offers
