THE CENTER FOR ASIAN STUDIES ANNOUNCES "CENTERS AND BORDERS:
AN ART EXCHANGE BETWEEN CHINA AND THE U.S." THURSDAY, APRIL 24
Join the CU-Boulder Office of the Chancellor, Professor of Art and Art
History George Rivera and CAS for the opening reception of "Centers and
Borders: Artwork Exchange between China and the United States." Light
refreshments will be served. Welcoming remarks by Chancellor Peterson
start at 5:30 p.m., immediately followed by a lecture from visiting

DEPRESSION: OUT OF THE SHADOWS
Join the national preview of the new PBS film on Depression followed by
a dialogue with psychologists and peer educators about social stigma,

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The IPA Lab is investigating the effects of age and antioxidants on
arterial function. Arterial function is the ability of your arteries to
increase in size and is an indicator of your cardiovascular health.
Participants should be males and females aged 18-35 or 60-79,
non-smokers for at least a year, doing little to no physical activity,
on minimal medications. Benefits include a detailed health screening and

SILAVUT INUIT VOICES IN A CHANGING WORLD EXHIBIT
Exhibit opens Tuesday, April 15. Learn about Inuit knowledge regarding
sea ice, glaciers, snow cover and arctic animals. Explore the
environmental changes Inuit elders and hunters have witnessed in their
lifetimes, as unpredictable storms and blizzards create problems for
traditional weather forecasting, weakened sea ice poses dangers to
regular travel, changes in animal health impact the quality of community
food resources and provide inferior skins for making clothing.

REWRITING AS REINVENTING: PIRANDELLO'S PLAY FROM PAGE TO STAGE
The French and Italian Lecturer Endowment presents Sebastiana Nobili
(Universit-di Bologna) who will examine Pirandello's play, "Questa sera
si recita a soggetto" (Tonight We Improvise) in which the short story
"Leonora, addio!" is reinvented as a play the actors are staging. Nobili
discusses how Verdi's opera "Il Trovatore" and the rising genre of film
influenced the rewriting process. In English. Co-sponsored by Theatre

ITALIAN THEATER PERFORMANCE
The Italian Theater class (ITAL4160) invites you to "E permesso, signor
Pirandello?" ("May I come in, Mr. Pirandello?") in Italian, in honor of
Pirandello, the renowned XX Century writer/playwright. The performance
consists of 2 one acts, 'La patente' written by Pirandello, and 'Dal
naso al cielo' a student adaptation of his short story. Co-produced by
ATLAS. ATLAS Black Box, free, Saturday, April 26, 7 p.m. and Sunday
April 27, 4 p.m., refreshments following.

THE NEW VISIBILITY OF MUSLIM WOMEN
Dr. Miriam Cooke, professor of modern Arabic literature and culture at
Duke University, presents "The New Visibility of Muslim Women" Tuesday,
April 22, 5 - 6:30 p.m., HUMN 125. A reception precedes the presentation
in HUMN 350 at 4 p.m. This project is co-sponsored by the French and
Italian Department, the Center for Asian Studies and the Religious
Studies Department. Miriam Cooke is a leading scholar on Arab and Muslim
women writers.
