    TO: Students, Faculty and Staff

    FROM: Office of Emergency Management

    SENDER: Lacey Croco, Emergency Manager

    DATE: October 25, 2011

    SUBJECT: Preparing for Winter Weather

The first winter storm of the season is forecasted to arrive tonight and
continue into Wednesday morning with the potential to produce up to 15 inches
of snow in the Boulder area. With the onset of winter weather, we encourage
you to review the campus closure policy at
    http://www.colorado.edu/VCAdmin/closures.html

In the rare situation the decision is made to close campus, or to run on a
delayed start schedule, notices will be posted on the CU-Boulder website at
http://www.colorado.edu, recorded on the campus Emergency Information Line at
    303-492-4636 (303-492-INFO), and sent to local media outlets by 6:00 a.m. A
notification also will be sent to all subscribers of the Campus Alerts system
in the event of a campus closure. All CU-Boulder students, faculty, and staff
are encouraged to sign up for Campus Alerts at http://www.colorado.edu/alerts.

If the campus is operating and open as normal, messages will not be sent and
the website will not be updated.

At times it may be necessary for the campus to close early due to deteriorating
weather conditions. When this decision is made it will be communicated through
the same channels. The campus may remain open even when local school districts
are closed, so it is crucial that you specifically check the CU-Boulder campus
    status.

When you are on campus during or after significant winter weather keep the
following in mind: be aware of your surroundings as snowplow equipment may be
operating on sidewalks and streets on and around campus. Be cautious of icy
areas and avoid walking under or near trees that may be under stress from heavy
snow. Wear the proper clothing, including proper footwear, and be cautious of
    slippery floors inside campus buildings.
