SUBJECT: Campus preparation in advance of the USC game

    Dear Colleagues:

The University of Colorado Boulder will host the University of Southern
California in a nationally televised football game on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011,
with a 7 p.m. kickoff. Campus leadership has been planning for this evening
game since it was first announced in May. In preparation for the evening game,
we have conducted surveys of buildings and programs that could be affected by
gameday activities, and are reaching out today to remind you of the upcoming
event and assess any logistical tasks that may still need our attention.

First-off we want you to be aware that, in partnership with our Department of
Intercollegiate Athletics, we worked with the PAC-12 and ESPN to secure the
Friday at 7 p.m. timeslot instead of a Thursday night game with an earlier
kickoff. We are pleased to have reached an accommodation that will allow us to
highlight our achievements on a national stage while continuing our academic
pursuits with minimal interruption. These rare weeknight games provide a unique
spotlight on CU-Boulder for a national audience, and create a sense of
    community across the campus.

While we anticipate minimal disruptions outside of those usually associated
with gameday activities, we invite you to review your campus plans for the day
and be prepared well in advance. We will not be releasing campus staff early on
Nov. 4, and the academic schedule reveals that there are almost no evening
classes or testing. We are currently addressing the few late afternoon classes
that are affected. However, if you are aware of a scheduling issue in your area
of responsibility that has not already been addressed, please contact me
    directly at William.Kaempfer@Colorado.EDU.

The campus community will be encouraged to use alternative transportation
rather than drive to campus on gameday. Several main campus parking lots will
be closed beginning at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 until approximately 11:30
p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. Traffic set-up will prohibit all RTD bus service
through main campus beginning at 3 p.m. Additional information about the
parking and transportation changes will be shared via email and is detailed on
    the following website:
    http://www.colorado.edu/parking/events/sportsrec/CUvs.USCFootballGame11-4-11.html

As shared by Chancellor DiStefano in May, I believe this game will provide us
another opportunity to highlight our beautiful campus and its many achievements
before a national audience. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and
cooperation in helping the campus accommodate this important event.

    Sincerely,

    William H. Kaempfer,
Vice Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor for Budget & Planning
