    DATE: March 10, 2011

SUBJECT: CULearn Unavailable March 21-23 to Complete Critical Upgrade

In order to complete a necessary and critical upgrade, CULearn will be
unavailable for three days over the spring break holiday, starting at 7 a.m. on
Monday, March 21 and lasting through 10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23. The
service will be completely unavailable during this time and customers are asked
to prepare accordingly. If the service can be restored prior to the scheduled
time, it will be. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to your courses.

CULearn, CU-Boulder's Learning Management System (LMS), is currently powered by
Blackboard-based Campus Edition 8 (CE8). This scheduled maintenance will
reinforce the existing CE8 environment to extend the life of the system,
improve performance, and allow us to gather data about its use. It is
imperative to keep the LMS, Blackboard CE8 environment viable through at least
three more terms while the campus migrates to a new LMS platform, Desire2Learn
(D2L), and to have the data necessary to ensure ensuring a smooth transition to
the new system. To learn more about the future of CULearn and D2L, visit the
    project website at:
    http://www.colorado.edu/its/culearn/culearnnextgen.html.

Please stayed tuned to the ITS homepage www.colorado.edu/its for updates about
other maintenance-related service outages over the spring break holiday.

Thank you for your patience during these services outages. If you have any
questions, please contact the IT Service Center at 303-735-4357 (or 5-HELP from
an on-campus phone) or help@colorado.edu. Phone help is available Monday
    through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
