    DATE: October 1, 2009

SUBJECT: Policy on Alcohol and Drugs

In compliance with the federal Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities
Act (SDFSCA), this is to advise you of the University of Colorado at
Boulder's Alcohol and Drug Policy. This policy is located on the Human
    Resources web site at:

    http://www.colorado.edu/humres/policies/ad.html?a=3

Please reference the above website to access the details included in
Appendix A - U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Drug Descriptions.

As part of Boulder's compliance with this Act, we are required to make this
information available at least annually to each University of Colorado at
Boulder employee. If you received this memorandum via campus mail, a hard
copy of the Alcohol and Drug Policy is attached.

The Alcohol and Drug policy "prohibits the unlawful manufacture,
dispensation, possession, use, or distribution of a controlled substance
(illicit drugs and alcohol) of any kind and of any amount. These
prohibitions cover any individual's actions which are part of any University
activities, including those occurring while on University property or in the
conduct of University business away from the campus." The policy also
states, "It is a violation of University policy for any member of the
faculty, staff, or student body to jeopardize the operation or interests of
the University of Colorado through the use of alcohol or drugs. Sanctions
that will be imposed by the University of Colorado for employees who are
found to be in violation of this policy may include expulsion and/or
termination of employment. Compliance with this policy is a condition of
    employment for all employees."
