SUBJECT: Your Role in Student Hiring & Placement

The University of Colorado at Boulder has a long history of strong
partnerships with industry leaders and corporate employers. These
relationships are complex and varied, running the spectrum from employers
sponsoring student projects to guest speaking to providing grants and other
research funding. We rely heavily on these relationships and will continue
    to do so.

Many faculty and staff engaged in these partnerships will be asked to assist
their corporate partners in the identifying and hiring of students for
professional positions. In genuine efforts to serve the needs of our
partners as well as helping our students to secure quality positions,
faculty and staff may feel pressure to participate in the recruiting
process. These employer are invested and interested in the great students
we have here at CU and it is only natural that they would want to hire our
best and brightest. At the same time, they may not be aware of the
standards that must be followed when providing connections between students
    and employers.

We understand that this process is complicated and our goal is to help you
make choices that are positive for students, employers, and you. The
National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) has a guide* designed
to help you understand the issues involved in student hiring that can be
found on the Career Services, Faculty page. Most importantly, it provides
strategies that can help you meet your employer partners' needs. In
addition to the NACE guide, you can also find information about how Career
Services can help you to implement the general strategies recommended in the
article in the Faculty Resources** page on our website.

Thank you for your continued interest in helping your students in their
professional development and in networking with employer partners to bring
the best opportunities to campus. At Career Services we are dedicated to
helping faculty, staff, students, and employers connect. If you have any
questions, concerns, or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Respectfully Submitted,
    Lisa Severy, PhD
