Laser Safety

The University of Colorado at Boulder does not currently have a Laser Safety Program, but one is under development and a draft "Laser Safety Policy" has been sent to Administration for approval. In the meantime, the Radiation Safety Office is collecting information on Class 3b and 4 lasers used on campus. If you use one of these lasers in your research here at the University, please complete the online Laser Registration Form.

Until such time as a Laser Safety Program is established, the Radiation Safety Office advises researchers to conform to the guidelines established in the most recent American National Standard for Safe Use of Lasers (ANSI Z136.1 - 2007). Please contact the Radiation Safety Office by phone (303-492-6523) or by email with any questions regarding Laser Safety.

Copies of ANSI Z136.1-2007 are available for check-out and review at the Radiation Safety Office or the Engineering Library on campus (the Library restricts use to University affiliates and check-out time is 3 days - ask for the Standard at the Information Desk).
