U.S. Domestic Applications for Fall 2007 Admissions

Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in our graduate program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EBIO). If you would like to apply for Fall 2007, please complete the application by December 30, 2006 (postmark date).

Most of the students accepted into our graduate program (MA I and PhD) receive a tuition waiver and a stipend. The majority of these awards to incoming students are in the form of teaching assistantships, which provide a stipend of approximately $13,600 for the academic year. Additional information regarding financial aid may be obtained by contacting the Office of Financial Aid.

Scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) are an important part of the application. We require both the general test and the subject test in biology. The November GRE is the latest date on which you may take the written GRE and have your official scores arrive here by the application deadline, unless you take the GRE by computer. Official scores received after the deadline will be accepted, but will delay the review process of your application. Many testing centers around the U.S. offer a computerized version of the GRE, allowing you to schedule the exam when you choose, and you receive your scores the same day you take the exam. Applicants who score in the 70th percentile and above on each section of the GRE and whose grade point average is 3.0 (on a 4 point scale) and above are encouraged to apply. This year, we received approximately 100 applications to our graduate program, and we were able to accept only about 15 students.

Our admission policy depends heavily upon faculty advocacy -- admission depends upon a faculty member requesting that an applicant be admitted to our graduate program. For this reason, applicants must contact faculty members (see listings under Faculty Research) with whom they would like to work and, if possible, to visit here and to interview with those faculty members. We recommend that you schedule your visit sometime during the academic year before February 15, 2007.
