Study Guide : This study guide is provided only to give you an idea of the kinds of questions you may find on the Lab Exam. It does not cover all the material. To view more pictures, as well as better copies of the images in the study guide, see the following web galleries.
A note about these images-- We are trying to get all of your images up on this page so you can use them If you have good image you'd like to have posted that does not appear, please email Claire. As you are all creating these as we go, the quality varies from picture to picture. Most pictures included are useful in order to remind yourselves of what you have seen. I've tried to include useful information in the file name of each photo, but please let me (Claire) know if any of this information is inaccurate or insufficient.
Andrea Maldorff Pictures Cell Wall
Wimm Vadakan Shoot Tip Pictures
Katie Anderson Shoot tip pictures
Nathan Parker Parenchyma/Aerenchyma
Julie Cramer and Alyssa Shook Shoot Organization and Development
AUTHORS UNKNOWN These pictures are all of Sclerenchyma. Several people took pictures of the same things. If you know a photo is yours and you would like credit for it, please contact Claire.
Claire Lay Coleus Series This shows a series of photographs taken from serial cross sections of a Coleus shoot tip. I started photographing where I saw the first protophloem element, and stopped when I identified a protoxylem element. The photos with the polarizing filter will help you to identify the protophloem element. Does protophloem or protoxylem differentiate first? How does the pattern of differentiation differ between these two tissues?
Botany Online Textbook This is a great source for definitions, pictures and lots of extra information
Botanical Dictionary For laughs... How funny you will find it, who knows.
Images from Oregon Contains several images you might want to see. (Earlier this said "gorgeous." This was somewhat untrue, as many are scanned from slides that were originally good, but that were not scanned well. However, they are useful study guides if you don't find what you are looking for in your classmate's pictures.)
Discussion Board Thanks to Wimm :) Here you should find extra info and have a place to ask questions. Claire will check it often and answer questions if you all use it.
Plant Research in Evolution and Development This is extra information on plant "evo-devo" research. It includes recent literatre, folks to contact and training opportunities. Check it out if you are interested in continuing research in plant development.
Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology If you are interested in other plant courses or in undergraduate research, you can go through either the 'courses' link or through faculty to find people you might be interested in.
Mountain Research Station For fun. There is a web-cam. Check out the species list, too,
