Discerning Homologies: Gene Expression, Development, and Morphology

MORPH-supported travel grants are available ($250 each) to attend this symposium

Co-organizers

Larry Hufford and William (Ned) Friedman

Location

Botanical Society of America, 2004 annual meeting (conference website)
Snowbird Resort, Salt Lake City, Utah
Symposium: TBA
Open space forum: TBA

Description

Homology is perhaps the core concept of comparative biology. This workshop will include presentations on phylogenetic, comparative, and molecular concepts of homology; discussion of different historical perspectives on homology in plants; and consideration of issues associated with the emerging comparative molecular expression pattern data in plants.

Speakers

Michael Donoghue: Partial homology

R. Geeta: Structure trees, species trees, and homology

Stefan Gleissberg: Evaluation of the usefulness of various connotations of the term homology for understanding plant structure and development

Larry Hufford: Development and homology

Elizabeth (Toby) Kellogg: Gene duplications, divergent expression, and their morphological correlates.

Neelima Sinha: Compound leaves: Division or multiplication?
