Step-by-step guide to applying for an undergraduate training grant

1. Select a lab to host your summer internship

Browse the listings of principal investigators on the MORPH lab pages. The MORPH training grants may be used to send you to any of these labs, even the international ones.

2. Contact the researcher whose work interests you.

Any of the researchers listed on the MORPH lab pages should be acquainted with MORPH grants. Email one or more researchers to express your interest. You might refer them to the grant guidelines and remind them that, by NSF rules, these funds may not be used to cover costs associated with the proposed research activities (e.g., supplies). Once you have found a researcher willing to host you, have him/her write a letter of support and send it to Professor William (Ned) Friedman at: ned@colorado.edu

3. Get a letter of recommendation.

Ask a biology professor from your home institution to write a letter of recommendation and send it to Professor William (Ned) Friedman at: ned@colorado.edu

4. Write a brief proposal

This should be a brief statement, at most 2 pages, detailing the research you intend to carry out in the host lab during your 10-week internship. The principal investigator in your host lab can probably provide you with guidance in preparing this statement.

5. Submit your application

Send the above materials electronically to Professor William (Ned) Friedman at: ned@colorado.edu. If you are unable to send materials via email, mail them to:
