Public transport, food, and meals
in restaurants are generally
less expensive than in the US.
Lodging
Leiden
University International Centre offers accommodation,
language courses and social activities for visiting researchers,
postgraduates, staff members and their families. It is a non-profit
organisation partly funded by Leiden University.
Meals
The Per Diem rate for Leiden is
$84.
Transportation
Air traffic arrives
at Schiphol airport. Trains leave from Schiphol Airport for
Leiden every 10-15 minutes. The journey takes about 20 minutes.
Train
tickets can be purchased either from a ticket counter or from
a machine (which will only accept Euro-coins). There also
is a train-ticket machine in the baggage claim area, so you
could already buy a ticket while you are waiting for the
baggage to arrive. If you cannot use the machines, you will
find the
ticket counters in the main hall. Costs
of a single fare second class are approximately €4,80
and first class €7,70. The differences between first and
second class are minimal.
