Exploring the structure and function of microbial communities

Contact Info.

We study the ecology of bacteria, fungi, and archaea in both natural and engineered systems. We examine those factors that influence the spatial and temporal variability in microbial communities and the role of microbes in the environment. Current work focuses on those microbes inhabiting soil, building surfaces, the human body, insects, and the atmosphere.

Noah Fierer is an associate professor in the  Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (EBIO) department and a fellow in the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado.
