We study the ecology of bacteria, fungi, and archaea in natural systems. We examine those factors that influence the spatial and temporal variability in microbial communities and the role of microbes in the environment. Current work focuses on those microbes inhabiting soil, leaf surfaces, and the atmosphere.

Noah Fierer is an assistant professor in the  Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (EBIO) department and a fellow in the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado. Prospective students can check here for information on working in the lab group.
