  • Some school sites will not accept a student teacher if the student has not completed a practicum experience at that school site.
  • Some schools sites will not accept a student teacher based on that school sites programming goals. (These schools may accept student teacher every other year or every other semester.)

Placement Procedures (additional details will be found in the Obtaining a Student Teacher Placement document)

  • Teacher candidates must attend the mandatory Student Teacher Application meeting led by the Director of Field Experiences and Director of Advising.
  • Teacher candidates must go through the Student Teaching Check-out process with the Director of Advising.  Failure to complete the Student Teaching Check-out process will delay the processing of application materials.
  • Teacher candidates must submit all application materials by the designated deadline.  Please visit the School of Education’s online calendar.
  • Teacher candidates must select 3-to-6 school sites.  (This number will differ for K-12 music, elementary, social studies and English teacher candidates - additional details will be found in the Obtaining a Student Teaching Placement document).
  • School choices must be in the Boulder, Longmont and metro Denver area. Some schools within these districts may not be available as a choice.
  • Teacher candidates will prioritize the 3-to-6 school sites.  (Choice number 1 is the most desirable.)
  • School sites will have at least two weeks to review the application materials
  • The OSS will not pull application materials from a school site until the school site has had at least two weeks to make their decision.
  • If the school site accepts the teacher candidate, the teacher candidate is required to come to the Office of Student Services (OSS) to sign the student teaching contract.
  • Contracts must be signed within a 48 hour period.  Teacher candidates may contact the OSS to receive an extension on signing their contract.
  • Teacher candidates cannot forgo signing a contract because he/she has changed their mind about that school site.  (This is the reason teacher candidates prioritize their school choice list.)
  • If the school site declines the teacher candidate, the teacher candidate’s application materials will automatically be forwarded to the next school on the list created by the teacher candidate.
