Student Teaching Information

Fall 2017

For more detailed information about the student teaching placement process, please refer to the Fall 2017 Student Teacher Application Manual.

Please examine the following statements carefully. We assume these statements to be true at the time of your application. If there are any statements you cannot confirm as true, you are obligated to inform us immediately:

  1. You have never been convicted of a felony.
  2. We have your permission to release your name and contact information to prospective employers in school districts, should they contact us looking for potential applicants.
  3. You are (or will be) registered properly and in a timely fashion for EDUC 4513 Education & Practice, and for your student teaching hours.
  4. You are prepared to travel to the location, time and day your University Supervisor establishes for your EDUC 4513 seminars.
  5. We have your permission to release your transcripts to any schools requesting them as part of the student teaching application process.

We ask our student teaching applicants to electronically submit the information below in one email with one attachment. Please do not send your materials in separate e-mails. Please do not send your materials in multiple attachments. You should combine all of your materials into one large document, and send one attachment to studentteach@colorado.edu .

Deadline January 30, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. If your application documentation is ready, please send it in before the deadline.

Your documentation will not be considered complete without the following:

In the subject of your email, include:

"Student Teaching Documentation Fall 2017 – FirstName LastName"

In the body of your email, include:

  • Combine the following as one attachment (file name "LastName_FirstName", formatted as a PDF) to your email.
  • a COVER PAGE (see Handbook for example)
  • a résumé, which should include previous work history, previous experience with children or students in the age group they will be licensed to teach, and any language skills you bring to the classroom;
  • two short narratives which answer the following:
    • Describe the factors that influenced your decision to pursue a career in teaching.
    • What are your three goals for your student teaching experience? How will student teaching help you achieve those goals?
  • a content area course history (secondary and music only).

Please note, your documentation will not be proofread or corrected by the Office of Student Services. We will submit your information to schools EXACTLY as you submit it to us, regardless of typographical or grammatical errors.

Below, please find information and forms pertaining to the student teaching semester.

We recommend that student teachers, cooperating teachers, and university supervisors review all the documents and read the handbooks carefully, as many of your concerns or questions may be addressed.

Handbooks:

The student teacher, cooperating teacher, and university supervisor should read both of these handbooks in preparation for the student teaching semester.

  • Professional Practice in Student Teaching (Student Teaching Handbook) 
    This handbook outlines the student teacher's role and responsibilities for the student teaching semester and contains information to facilitate the student teaching experience.
     
  • Mentoring Your Student Teacher 
    This handbook outlines the role and responsibilities for the student teaching semester. This handbook contains information, suggestions, and activities to facilitate the student teacher, cooperating teacher, and university supervisor triad.

Required Forms:

  • Student Teacher's In-School Schedule (Required)
    The student teacher may copy the cooperating teacher's in-school daily/weekly schedule or use this form for the benefit of both the ST and the University Supervisor. The in-school schedule will provide the supervisor with important information about the teaching day. Supervisors use this to plan visits—should a deviation from this schedule occur (e.g., an assembly, teacher in-service day, etc.), the ST should notify the supervisor.

Mid-Term and Final Documentation (Required)

  •  Colorado Teacher Evaluation Rubrics Form (PC) (Required)
  • Colorado Teacher Evaluation Rubrics Form (Mac) (Required)
  • This form is used to track progress of the student teacher throughout the semester.  The student teacher and cooperating teacher are responsible for keeping it up-to-date on a weekly basis.  The supervisor may add to it at his/her visits to the classroom for observations.  It is the document used at the mid-term and final conferences.  At the mid-term triad conference, growth goals are discussed with the student teacher. This document is again used at a triad final conference. This document serves as a final evaluation for both the supervisor and cooperating teacher and must have all parties' initials, dates and the supervisor's recommendation for licensure, if appropriate. Use the version that is made for your computer (PC or Mac).

  • Final Evaluations (Required):
     
    • ​For Student Teachers: Student Teacher Evaluation of Cooperating Teacher
      We are interested in obtaining feedback from you about the effectiveness of your Cooperating Teacher. An on-line assessment link will be sent by email near the end of the semester (early December for fall placements and early May for spring placements). The authors of evaluations will remain anonymous.
       
    • For Student Teachers: Student Teacher Evaluation of University Supervisor
      We are also interested in obtaining feedback from you about the effectiveness of your supervisor. An on-line assessment link will be sent by email near the end of the semester (early December for fall placements and early May for spring placements). After grades are submitted, overall results will be shared with the supervisors. The authors of evaluations will remain anonymous.
       
    • For Cooperating Teachers: Cooperating Teacher Evaluation of University Supervisor
      An on-line assessment link will be sent by email at the end of the semester (early December for fall placements and early May for spring placements). The authors of evaluations will remain anonymous.
       
    • For University Supervisors: University Supervisor Evaluation of Cooperating Teacher
      An on-line assessment link will be sent by email near the end of the semester (early December for fall placements and early May for spring placements). The authors of evaluations will remain anonymous.
