Application materials

A complete application file includes:

  • A completed School of Education Graduate Application, Parts A & B.
    • Graduate school application forms for international students (Parts I and II).
    • Official or Certified Copies of all College or University Records, if applicable. Please click here to review the requirements for specific countries.
    • Four references (forms are provided with graduate application or the recommender may use a letter format). For additional forms, click here.
    • Report of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) required (see section 3 below) for: (a) master’s applicants whose grade point average is below the required minimum, (b) applicants to the ESPY program, and (c) all doctoral applicants.
    • TOEFL Score Report
    • Financial Statement. If you need an F-1 or J-1 visa (or if you are in the United States and will continue your F-1 or J-1 immigration status) you are required to certify that you have adequate financial support to complete your program of study.
    • $70 (U.S.) application processing fee.
  • Test Scores
  • The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for admission.  You must register for the test one month in advance. Contact the testing center of a nearby university for the proper registration forms (at CU Boulder, 303-492-6766). Allow five weeks for the test results to reach the School of Education. Masters applicants may substitute the Miller Analogy Test (MAT) for the GRE.
  • The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for admission.  A minimum score of score of 650 (written) or 280 (computer) or 114 (IBT) is required.

Important Notice
We find that serious delays in processing applications for admission to graduate programs are caused by the long time it takes for college and university transcripts and recommendation forms to reach our office. To expedite your application, please follow up your original requests for transcripts and recommendations with the sending institution or person about three weeks later. It is your responsibility to see that transcripts and recommendations are furnished for your application file.

Please read the section on admission procedures in the School of Education Graduate Handbook and review the University admission requirements for international applicants.
