Leighanna graduated from the University of Texas (UT) at Austin in 2011 with a BS in Biochemistry and is currently attending CU-Boulder as a graduate student in the School of Education. She has experience in assisting in the teaching of General Chemistry I and II recitations and labs, as well as the Survey of Biochemistry course. While a student at UT Austin, she mentored students for the research methods course (where basic biochemical techniques were taught) and was the TA for "Virtual Drug Screening," in which students completed their own independent research projects.
Leighanna enjoys working with students and teaching math and science. Her ultimate goal in education is to participate in youth activism, with an emphasis on minorities in the sciences. She uses her biochemistry background and education knowledge to advance social equality in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Leighanna currently works in an after school program and does research on low income students learning science.
