Monette McIver

Teaching

Dr. McIver’s teaching focuses on effective writing practices for classroom teachers at the elementary and secondary levels. In addition to redesigning the writing section of the Integrated Reading/Writing for the Elementary School course, she developed The Writing Teacher, an online course for Houghton Mifflin Company and Teaching Writing in the Content Areas, a multi-day professional development course for secondary content-area teachers.

Courses taught:

EDUC 4321 Integrated Reading/Writing for the Elementary School

This course is designed to familiarize prospective teachers with research-based knowledge and practical techniques for teaching reading and writing in the elementary grades (K-6). The primary goal of this course is to develop practitioners who are knowledgeable about research-based practices in language and literacy teaching, and are able to apply that knowledge in the design of curriculum and lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners.
