Director of Diversity Recruitment and Retention Collinus Hutt, a Denver native, comes to the School of Education after eight years of teaching and leading diversity initiatives at Graland Country Day School, a Denver independent school. Hutt serves as a Senior Instructor and the Director of Recruitment and Retention for the School of Education. She is a graduate of the school’s Master’s Plus degree program and has a wealth of knowledge on issues related to equity and justice in education. Hutt is a dedicated and innovative educator. She has a strong background in curriculum and instruction, leading school diversity, literacy, and ESL programs, as well as teaching at multiple levels. Hutt possesses a firm belief in engendering students to become lifelong learners and productive citizens by providing a quality education and instructional environment. She is adept at curriculum development, effectively adapting various teaching methodologies to diverse learners, and facilitating both curricular and extracurricular student activities. Hutt brings the School of Education the ability to leverage strategic leadership strengths to unite teachers, parents, students, and the community to cultivate broad, effective educational partnership among all participants. She is also incredibly experienced at promoting positive relations in multicultural environments a value that the School of Education welcomes. Hutt has consulted for many schools on issues related to curriculum development and social action. In 2008, she was named co-chair of the National Association of Independent Schools’ (NAIS) 2009 People of Color Conference held in Denver in December of 2009. She has worked with NAIS for the last four years as a facilitator for the Student Diversity Leadership Conference. She also is a member of NAIS Call-to-Action Diversity think tank. Her main role within the School of Education is to oversee the implementation of the strategic plan to recruit and retain students of color and first-generation students to School of Education programs, as well as assist in developing a community of support for graduate students of color and first-generation graduate students in the school. She also works with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement (ODECE), Career Services, and other universities to develop and participate in recruitment events or initiatives (e.g., Future Teacher Expo Fair). Hutt is also the Chairperson of the Teachers of Color & Allies Summit, an annual event sponsored by the School of Education. She is married and has three daughters, Gracie, Faithie, and Rubie.
