Anissa Butler is director of Recruitment and Retention for the School of Education. Dr. Butler works to increase diversity in the School of Education through recruiting underrepresented students into the Education Diversity Scholars Program. The EDS program is a division of the CU-Lead Program, which is a campus wide organization devoted to supporting diversity on the CU Campus.
The Education Diversity Scholars (EDS) program supports diversity through creating a cohort environment in which students attedn monthly events, discuss and address issues of diversity and inequity in education, and participate in various community building events across the campus. EDS students also receive a membership affiliation with the National Education Association, they are eligible to receive EDS/CU-Lead scholarships, and receive director, faculty and peer support as a result of being members in the program. Students can apply to become a member of the EDS program in their freshman year. Dr. Butler's research examines issues of cultural privilege, cross-cultural communication in predominantly white communities, issues of cultural conflict through the application of critical race theory, and generating information regarding barriers to, and strategies for recruiting for diversity.
