Outreach
The School of Education is involved with communities in a variety of capacities, including establishing and/or supporting multiple centers, such as the renowned BUENO Center, and the leading-edge education policy watchdog, the Education and the Public Interest Center.
Additionally, the School of Education maintains long-standing partnerships with neighboring school districts. Districts bring their expertise to bear in improving the quality of university programs by sending clinical professors to team teach at CU-Boulder and by providing practicum and student teaching experiences for our students. At the same time, University of Colorado faculty work with teachers in partner districts to improve the quality of K-12 education by supplying research findings, technology training, support in implementing curricular reforms, and help with assessment and evaluation studies. Partner districts also participate in the Partners in Education (PIE) program, which provides professional development opportunities for novice teachers.
School of Education faculty research provides additional outreach and focuses on educational policy, classroom practice, and community-based learning. This research addresses practical issues in context and connects to teaching and service goals. These advances in research are incorporated into educational practice, a goal advocated by the National Academy of Sciences (Improving Student Learning) and the National Academy of Education (Recommendations Regarding Research Priorities). |
