Student Profile Candidates in the School of Education come from throughout the United States, and some graduate candidates are from other countries. Undergraduate candidates in teacher licensure programs major in approved arts and sciences disciplines and are academically as strong or stronger than their nonteaching colleagues. Candidates admitted to the School of Education have an average GPA of 3.39, based primarily on their work in arts and sciences, compared with a university average of 3.00. Our candidates do well on state-required content exams for licensure, e.g., in the last academic year, 100 percent of all CU-Boulder teacher education candidates who completed the program passed their PLACE or PRAXIS exams. Graduate candidates tend to be very strong academically and maintain grade point averages well above 3.0. U.S. News & World Report recently reported that average GRE scores for doctoral candidates in the School of Education were 6th (out of 190) in the country. Candidates in the master's degree plus licensure program in the last academic year had a mean GPA of 3.88, and other graduate candidates had a mean GPA of 3.90. While our undergraduate licensure candidates have a median age of 22, our post-BA licensure candidates tend to be older, with a median age of 27. Graduate candidates are also older, with a median age of 31. The School of Education has a strong commitment to diversity in faculty and candidates and to recruiting students of color into its teacher licensure and graduate programs. Scholarships are available for candidates who have a desire to work with members of underrepresented, ethnic minority groups. |
