Education Diversity Scholars Program
The Education Diversity Scholars (EDS) program works with the University of Colorado's LEAD Alliance Neighborhood to provide students of color
and first generation college students with social and academic support, as well as advising on financial support and career preparation. The goal
of the program is to offer students a welcoming environment and a strong support network in order to help them excel in their chosen fields.
The EDS program is committed to providing academic and social support, financial support, and support in preparing for a career.
Academic and Social Support
By participating in the Education Diversity Scholars program, you will be given many opportunities to interact with faculty, fellow students, and teachers already in the field by participating in social events on campus. You can:
- Have a quiet space in which to study on your own or with other students.
- Learn effective research strategies through the School of Education Library.
- Receive individualized advising about how to combine your major requirements with your teacher licensure requirements.
- Take special course sections just for EDS participants.
- Attend events such as the scholarship award banquet with faculty and other students.
Financial Support
Education Diversity Scholars are eligible to receive many types of financial assistance. You can apply for:
In addition, you will be eligible to receive:
- Assistance finding a summer job, particularly in schools that offer summer programs and hire tutors.
- Assistance in obtaining work-study positions within the School of Education.
Career Support
The EDS program can support you at every phase of your college education. We can also help you find a job when you graduate. We will provide you with opportunities to:
- Meet with teachers to talk about the joys and challenges of teaching.
- Prepare a resume, hone your interview skills, and get support and encouragement during your job search.
- Talk one-on-one with your instructors through our faculty mentoring program.
- Explore graduate study in the field of Education.
- Get to know School of Education graduate students who have public school teaching experience through the student mentoring program.
