In light of the passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in late 2015, below are updates and supplements to portions of Education and the Law, 4th Ed. by Biegel, Kim and Welner (West Academic Publishing, 2016).
While ESSA is now the prevailing law governing major aspects of public education from pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade, the contents of Education and the Law, 4th Ed. remain relevant not only to trace the development of K-12 education policy over the past 15 years, but also because ESSA incorporates major elements of the law and policy initiatives that precede it, including No Child Left Behind, Race to the Top, and Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).
