In the middle to late 1800's the Oklahoma Territory was divided into several different Indian Reservations. At that time the Indians were not given a choice of which land they could have. Suppose that your group is an Indian tribe and you are given a choice of which land you can have. Refer to the map of Oklahoma and decide which section of land your group will choose to receive. Once you have made that decision your group will bid on the land which will be divided up to the five tribes.
Keep in mind when you make your choice for land; water rights, farm land, pasture land, areas to build etc.
When bidding the following rules must be followed:
(1)Each group submits a bid for their section of land.
(2) A fair share is determined for each group by finding the sum of the bids and dividing that sum by the number of groups.
(3)Each section of land is given to the group who bid the highest on that particular section of land.
(4)Each group is given an amount of cash that is equal to the groups fair share (from step 2) less the amount the group bid on the land they received. If the amount is negative the group pays that amount back to the state.
(5) The remaining cash is divided equally among the groups.
Begin the bidding process .
Did you get your land, or cash or both?
Was the process fair? why or why not.
