Scholarship awards

Our scholarship program began in 1993 under the direction of Chancellor Phil DiStefano, then Dean of the School of Education, and the CU Foundation. In our first year we awarded 5 scholarships totaling $2500. This year, on October 14th, 2016, the School of Education celebrated 64 scholarships and fellowships amounting to $338,215. We want to express our utmost gratitude to our supporters who have contributed so generously to the School by investing in our students' education. Speakers

  • Will Gracey, an undergraduate student pursuing his teacher licensure in Secondary Social Studies Education. He graduated in May of this year with a Bachelor’s degree in History and will complete his student teaching this fall.
  • Ofelia Schepers, a doctoral student in the Educational Equity & Cultural Diversity program. As bilingual educator, she is dedicated to understanding and improving the working conditions of other bilingual educators. Schepers' current study examines how teachers navigate multilingual education despite conditions that continually increase pressure to conform to monolingual standards. She aspires to influence teachers’ working conditions by working for a state department of education.
  • Thomas Windham, a member of the School of Education’s Development Advisory Board and an alumnus of CU, receiving his PhD in Social-Personality Psychology in 1975 from CU Boulder and his Specialist in Education degree from CU Denver in 1995. He also has a Masters of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from New Mexico Highlands University, Las Vegas. His service track includes various positions in education, including work in the Boulder Valley School District, the Naropa Institute, Nebraska Wesleyan University, the National Science Foundation, and even CU Boulder as an Instructor of Black Studies. Windham is a psychologist, an educator, and a highly regarded diversity expert, advocate, practitioner and spokesperson.
