The University Women’s Club of CU Boulder has named Dean Lorrie Shepard the recipient of the Margaret Willard Award. Nominated by alumna Karon Johnson (MA, 1990), the award is given to recipients who: demonstrate outstanding work in her field, enhance the quality of life for women on the Boulder campus and/or in the Boulder community, elevate women’s performance, and are exceptional role models.

“One can trace the path of Dr. Shepard through the School of Education and see the parallel growth and recognition of the institution in academic circles,” the University Women’s Club stated citing her current role as dean, her past appointments as chair of the Research and Evaluation Methodology Department and director of graduate studies, and past roles as president of the American Educational Research Association, the National Council on Measurement in Education, and the National Academy of Education.

“Lorrie has led the effort to bring top research and teaching faculty to the school. Under her leadership, exemplary programs are improving K-12 education and teacher training … Lorrie is a role model for students and faculty, professionally and personally. She leads through example, encouragement, and being part of a working group. Faculty and students are enabled to do their best and to improve research, teaching, and learning,” the Club stated.

Shepard will be honored at the University Women’s Club spring reception on May 10.
