Gene Glass received the Horace Mann League's "Outstanding Public Educator" award at the league’s annual meeting this month in Phoenix, Arizona.

Glass is professor emeritus in the School of Education at the University of Colorado Boulder, regents' professor emeritus at Arizona State University, and senior researcher at the National Education Policy Center. He made substantial contributions to education statistics and educational policy research, and his work as a pioneer of meta-analysis has been recognized as one of 40 scholarly contributions that changed psychology.

“I am humbled by the league’s recognition, but I consider it as more symbolic than personal,” Glass said. “I simply stand in the stead of so many who are fighting those who could destroy the centuries old mission of democratic control of public schools.”

He went on to ponder if Horace Mann — founder of the American public school system — would tweet.
