Maybe you enjoy the stimulating challenge of puzzles and solutions. Perhaps you are drawn to the mystery of numbers and equations. Maybe you like experimenting, or designing and building creative products that help others.
But have you thought about teaching science, mathematics, or engineering? Chances are that your own desires to pursue these subjects began with a teacher so many years ago. Becoming a teacher is a wonderful pathway to giving back to your community and inspiring the next generation of learners to innovate, improve, and grow.
But where to begin?
CU Teach is a multidisciplinary collaboration of the School of Education, the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Engineering & Applied Science, and K-12 educators in the Denver-Boulder metro area. This teacher education program leads to an engineering, mathematics, or science major, along with a Colorado teaching license in Secondary Mathematics or Science.
You will receive the same degree as your peers, but have an additional career path.
Through your major department in the College of Arts & Sciences or the College of Engineering & Applied Science, you will gain the content knowledge to become a successful teacher. In fact, the General Engineering degree program, the Department of Mathematics, and the Department of Physics all have pathways specifically designed for those who want to pursue the teaching licensure.
At the same time, CU Teach prepares you to work in today’s fast-changing classrooms. Work alongside mentor teachers in local public schools to apply the theories and knowledge you gain in teacher education coursework through the School of Education. In your final semester, you begin your first step as a secondary teacher, working as a student-teacher candidate in one of our partner schools.
