CU Department of History Distinguished Professor Emerita Marjorie McIntosh, School of Education Instructor Kent Willmann, and former Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) administrator Leonora Velasquez have been working to ensure that Latino/a experiences and contributions are included in local schools' history curricula.
As a collaborative, grass-roots initiative, the Boulder County Latino History Project has grown to offer an extensive multi-media collection of primary sources of Latino history as well as instructional resources and training.
School of Education Master's students Kristen Klein and Jasón Romero and served as interns for the Boulder County Latino History Project's first Summer Teacher Workshop. Kristen and Jasón offered presentations on the historical contributions of Latina women and the importance of Latino/a self-identification across origins.
The next Summer Teacher Workshop is planned for June 15-18 and August 11, 2015. Participants will get excellent historical training and write lessons that will be shared with both BVSD and St. Vrain Valley School District.
