Hayley Vatch, a Master's degree student in the Educational Foundations, Policy and Practice program, teaches Sociology at South High School in Denver. This fall, Vatch and her students have engaged in a deep examination of the historical and sociological roots of race and racism, as well as the current state of racism in our society. The class has visited the "RACE: Are We So Different?" exhibit at the History Colorado Center, learned about how race is a social construct and how racism is institutionalized, and discussed the recent grand jury decision in Ferguson.

Colorado Public Radio's (CPR) Jenny Brundin covered Vatch's noteworthy teaching about race and racism in two segments: (1) "At History Colorado race exhibit, students learn 'we’re all kind of the same',"; and (2) "In Denver, classroom opens doors to Ferguson discussion."

Each feature includes a written article and an audio recording of the radio program.
