Ph.D., Northwestern University, 1967, is a professor of economics. He specializes in urban and regional economics and in economic demography. Among the topics he has studied are the determinants and consequences of internal migration in the United States and in other countries, including Mexico; time series analysis and forecasting of migration and employment changes in U.S. regions; the intrametropolitan location of employment, population, and housing; the determinants of U.S. and Canadian immigration, including the gender, age, and skill composition of the immigrants; and the economic consequences of U.S. immigration. Greenwood has received funding from organizations such as the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Institute on Aging, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Economic Development Administration, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Regional Science and the Papers in Regional Science. He was a member of the research team for the Bi-National Study on Mexican Migration to the United States of the U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform.
